Well, this is just odd. The Wrap is reporting that Cate Blanchett is attached to star in an authorized biopic of Hollywood legend Lucille Ball that Aaron Sorkin is set to write. Yes, Aaron Sorkin, whose rat-tat-tat post-realistic meanderings will no doubt result in Lucy giving coked-out monologues as she paces around a dizzying maze of Hollywood backlots. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? Cate Blanchett can probably do it because she can do anything. And playing Lucy, after playing Katherine Hepburn and Bob Dylan onscreen, is quite a hat trick. So I’m down with that. But let’s not kid ourselves: Tammie Brown would have been a better choice. As would (I cringe to say it) Debra Messing, who has probably been preparing for the role since puberty.

The film will chronicle Ball’s 20-year marriage to Desi Arnaz, with whom she starred on the classic TV sitcom “I Love Lucy.” Ball had two children with Arnaz before they divorced in 1960. She married Gary Morton the following year.

Lucie Arnaz Jr. and Desi Arnaz Jr. will produce with Escape Artists, whose executive Jenna Block will oversee development of the project on behalf of the Sony-based company.

I do love me some Desi Arnaz Jr. Oh he used to SEND ME on the old Here’s Lucy show. Seriously SWOON-WORTHY. Let’s look at some pics of him below, and watch his super-groovy “Country Magic” duet with Ann-Margret. Now THAT’S music. THAT’S dancing. And THAT’S how you wear five wigs at once.

The Huffington Post has determined something we’ve known for a while: Nicole Richie is indeed everyone’s new favorite gay icon! She helped shape our current selfie-driven pop culture with the show The Simple Life alongside Paris Hilton, and has continued to develop a queer following with her show Candidly Nicole, which, as according to the article, “functions as a unique hybrid of scripted and non-scripted campy humor.”

The article continues:

“Nicole is beyond a gay icon, she just IS gay; not in the man-on-man action kind of way, but in the old school fly-your-freak flag, bleach-your-hair, snap-miss-thing kind of way!” Randy Barbato, the show’s co-executive producer, told The Huffington Post. “Nicole’s comic genius taps into an outsider rebel spirit that resonates with the GAYEST of gays.”

We absolutely love this show and the icon Richie has become in the world of reality TV.

Tune-in at 11pm/10c on VH1 to watch tonight’s all-new episode of Candidly Nicole and find out what possum attacks have to do with gay pride!

Glorious trans icon Candis Cayne sits down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about her childhood, her early days in New York, her transition, and the impact she’s had on Hollywood. It’s quite a talk. “It’s kind of nice to know I had a part in the turning of the tide by getting on [Dirty Sexy Money], and playing a tue character and a character that audience members could relate to. Then I started going to events in the community, and one night – I can’t remember the event – but they showed a clip of my scene with Donald Sutherland. After the scene the audience stood up and applauded. I realized then, this is so much more than just me getting a part. It was really pushing the fabric of society a little bit more forward.”

Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles: ConDRAGulations to David Parnes & Adrian on Their Recent Engagement!

It was already a big week for David Parnes from Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles with his show premiering this week, but now we’ve just gotten news that he proposed to his girlfriend Adrian and we’ve got all the details and an EXCLUSIVE photo of the big moment!

Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles

David on how he proposed to Adrian:

I wanted to propose in Capri, Italy as its our favourite place. The energy and the scenery, the restaurants, the sea – it’s all so beautiful. I wanted to have the peace of mind that I made it as memorable as I could…. I was only going to get one shot!

I organised a boat to pick us up from the peer at 4pm, which took us on a journey around the island for a few hours. We were able to relax and unwind, joke and laugh and just be together within the most breathtaking setting.

Next we were picked up by a vintage, Italian, convertible taxi which drove us to the the lighthouse at the top of the island. When we arrived, the driver suggested we walk up a secluded pathway, which was sign posted with or names along the trail.

As we got to the top, there was a terrace, which was decorated with white and pink roses (Adrian’s favourite), champagne and chocolates. The timing was important as sunset was about to start. A gentleman playing the guitar followed us as did a photographer who was able to capture the moment that I got down on my knee as the sun disappeared into the sea. It really was incredible. Thank goodness all went perfectly and Adrian said yes!

On the ring:

The ring was designed and made by Lorraine Schwartz. She worked with me every step of the way and created the perfect ring for Adrian. Fortunately, James’ wife Valeria had been ring shopping with Adrian and she let me know which type of ring Adrian wanted.

The ring is a 4 carat, cushion cut stone, on a simple, white gold and diamond setting. Thanks to Lorraine and Valeria, Adrian LOVED it!

On how they met:

I met Adrian a little less than two years ago at Cecconi’s restaurant in West Hollywood. I was having dinner with a friend and client on the table next to her. Adrian was with a guy, however I could tell they weren’t together, it seemed more of a business meeting (I later found out that Adrian is an interior designer).

I literally couldn’t keep my eyes off of her and I kept saying to my client that I needed to get her number. He kind of laughed it off but I couldn’t seem to get the courage to ask her. Anyway she left and I took my chances, I walked outside and she was gone!

I thought to myself there’s no way I can miss this girl – I’d never felt this kind of attraction without even speaking to someone before. I went around the corner and saw her sitting in her car, so I briskly (and awkwardly) walked over to speak with her. Luckily she was so sweet and receptive and let me know she wasn’t married and she didn’t have a boyfriend. She gave me her number and the rest is history!

And to make things even better – my client was so impressed he gave me his listing on the spot. The evening had proven very successful!

On their relationship:

Adrian is a home maker and everything she creates is perfect! We have FIVE rescue dogs between us: Maxi and Bella (my Basset Hounds), L’il Mama and L’il Papa (the chihuahuas) and lastly – we just rescued another tiny little chihuahua currently named: “the baby”.

We built a house together in West Hollywood and the story will be told this season on the show so I can’t say much more on this!

Throwback Thursday: “I’m Real (Remix)” by Jennifer Lopez featuring Ja Rule

Oh my god, this song was my mutha-f*ckin’ JAM! This song was number one this week WAY back in 2001. It was a good time for me. I had just started college at the University of Arkansas AND it was literally a week before everyone’s life would be changed forever with the events of September 11. It was the end of the party. Whatever happened to Ja Rule? Jennifer Lopez looks better than ever!

Fun factoid: At the very beginning when J Lo sings “R-U-L-E,” my dumb friend Lauren thought she was singing, “Are you Nelly?” HA! I was like, “What’d you call me?”

crocs-2-560x374

Fashion icon and mother of all things cool in NYC, Patricia Field, launches a new shoe collaboration with what fashion snobs might consider the antithesis of style…Crocs! The fluffy, proprietary nonplastic resin footwear was originally created for comfort, and mostly seen on kids. That ain’t the case anymore. Field has taken it beyond, adding her pop-neon graffiti fonts which serve as a frame for her iconic graphic illustrations by artist Martine.

“My decision to collaborate with Crocs is based on my belief that Crocs’ method of shoe-making is what I call ‘The Shoes of the Future'”, says Field. “This is because the method is high-tech, with a cost efficient manufacturing process, and of course, high durability. I believe that it is a world concept for shoes, and that the molding process will find it’s way into the wearing apparel, revolutionizing the fashion industry.”

LA

September 4, 1781– El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río de Porciúncula (The Village of Our Lady, the Queen of the Angels of the river of Porziuncola). Los Angeles & I have history. My father grew up in the Silverlake neighborhood, which at the time was a quiet, nice, but already bohemian neighborhood. When I lived in the city in the early 1970s, Silverlake had deteriorated, but then the gays moved in & fixed things up as they do in most metropolitan areas & now it is inhabited by an eclectic community of hipsters, the creative class, &, of course, lots of gays.

I went happily to college in Los Angeles at Loyola Marymount University. I lived in Playa del Rey, right on the strand. My apartment had sliders that opened to white sand & the Pacific Ocean, with a view of Catalina Island on a clear day, which there were not that many of in the early 1970s. My Los Angeles life, hardly ever involved LA proper. My universe was very “beach” & stretched from Redondo Beach to Malibu. I frequented spots in Venice & Santa Monica. My friends & I would go into Westwood or Hollywood for films & plays, but for the most part it was beach.

Recent archaeological studies show there was a culture in Los Angeles in 8,000 B.C., mostly acting hopefuls trying to be seen by casting directors for the prehistoric version of pilot season. There was much disappointment & a certain amount of violence when it was revealed that film itself was a full 27 centuries away.

By 3,000 B.C. Los Angeles was occupied by the Hokan-speaking people of the Milling Stone Period who could sing, dance, act, & write screenplays, plus gather wild seeds. Los Angeles, along with the rest of Southern California was claimed by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo for Spain in 1542. By the time the rest of the Europeans arrived in the mid-18th century, there were 250,000 to 300,000 people in LA., all trying to get their SAG cards.

Los Angeles is the second largest city in the USA. It has an area of more than 600 square miles. The urban area extends beyond the administrative city limits with a population of over 20 million humans. It is the 21st largest urban area in the world. Los Angeles the largest city with the highest & lowest (sea level) elevation difference in the world. Native plants include California Poppy, Coast Live Oak, & Xanax.

Although I have always felt the weather is rather perfect, Los Angeles is sadly in its third year of severe drought, maybe you heard. It is also subject to the phenomena of microclimates, with extreme variations in temperature in close physical proximity to each other. The average September maximum temperature in Santa Monica is 75 °F, but it is 95 °F in Canoga Park. The city, like much of the Southern California coast enjoys weather with foggy skies in the morning burning off to sun by early afternoon.

Los Angeles is the largest manufacturing center in the western United States. Los Angeles/Long Beach comprise the largest port in Western North America & fifth busiest port in the world. It is the third largest metropolitan economy on our pretty planet, after Tokyo & NYC.

It is a global city, with 225 different languages spoken including “Agent”, & many ethnic enclaves with cool restaurants throughout the city. It is home for the largest population of people of Middle Eastern heritage outside of, well, The Middle East, with large groups of Armenians & Persians centered near Sunset Boulevard, & the second largest group of Jews in North America. Only 29% of Los Angelinos are white people, yet they make up 98% of the entertainment industry.

Some of the happiest moments of my life have been experienced in LA. I love the city & I have watched the renaissance & turn of neighborhoods that I would never have dreamed possible: Hollywood, Culver City Downtown, Glendale & Venice. When I was there in February, it was simply gorgeous, with blue skies, temps in the 70s, a slight dusting of snow in the Santa Monica Mountains, & lots & lots of pretty people.

Happy Birthday to the City Of Angels. I will always love you: Tommy’s Burgers, Hollywood, The Capitol Record Building, Santa Monica, Laurel Canyon, Griffith Park, Randy’s Donuts, Rodeo Drive, Nate N’ Al’s, Canter’s, La Brea Tar Pits, The Getty, Venice Beach Boardwalk, Union Station, ScientologyWatts Towers, The Chateau MarmontThe Hollywood Roosevelt HotelEl Portal TheatrePalos Verdes, Beverly Hills, Swimming Pools, Movie Stars, World Of Wonder Headquarters.

Everyone should live in Los Angeles at least once in their long life.

How Much Pot Do You Have to Smoke Before You Overdose and Die?

$

The boys from AsapSCIENCE are back, this time with a list of surprising things that can kill you. For instance, did you know it takes 70 cups of coffee to kill a 150lb person? And that while 13 consecutive shots of alcohol can be lethal, drinking six consecutive litres of WATER is just as deadly? Also: Never, ever bite into a cherry pit, of course. One or two ground cherry pits contain enough cyanide to topple you. And try not to eat 85 full-sized chocolate bars in one sitting. You’ll be unable to metabolize the Theobromine in the chocolate and will, you guessed it, DIE.

Of course the takeaway from this episode is how much pot you need to ingest before you die. Luckily, it’s A LOT. You’d have to eat 48lbs of marijuana before it becomes lethal. If you smoke it, the amount to overdose is comically high: approximately half a ton within 15 minutes – which is why there has never been a single documented death due to consuming too much marijuana.

Watch the episode below.

Man’s Enormous 19-Inch Penis Is RUINING HIS LIFE!

Step aside, Jonah Falcon! There’s a new record-holding giant weiner in town: Roberto Esquivel Cabrera of Saltillo, Mexico whose penis is reportedly 48.2 centimeters (nearly 19 inches) long and the tip’s circumference is 25 centimeters (nearly 10 inches) – and, poor thing, it’s making him MISERABLE.

“Look where it is, it goes far below the knees,” Mr Cabrera sobbed to the press this past weekens. “I cannot do anything, I cannot work, and I am disabled so I want authorities to declare me as a disabled person and give me support.”

His social life is dismal as well, he says as women are too scared to be with him, so he had never had a long-term girlfriend, let alone a wife. (Although I’m sure he’s getting plenty of offers from the boys right about now…)

Saya AustralianNews.com:

In 2011 Mr Cabrera was deported from US to Saltillo in the north-eastern Mexican state of Coahuila, where he lives alone in a room given to him by his brothers. He survives on social assistance and scavenges for food and materials on waste dumps. He has no friends and says people “shun” him wherever he goes.

Before his record was made official, Mr Cabrera had a medical examination and X-ray of his phallus to support his application for disability. Doctors at a medical institution in Saltillo have confirmed the scan is genuine, The Mirror reported.

Some experts have suggested Mr Cabrera consider a shaft reduction operation but it is not clear what his thoughts are on the subject.

The previous record holder for penis length was an American called Johan Falcon, whose 13.38 inch manhood (34cm) was dwarfed by Mr Cabrera’s.

And here’s some interesting food for thought, to help you get a visual on the size of his dong: At 19 inches, Roberto’s penis is two-inches shorter than the world’s smallest man! Mr Cabrera’s story and struggle for help is to be published in a book called El Sordido Pudor, which translates as “Sordid Shyness”.

UPDATE: The king cobra is STILL on the loose. I repeat! STILL ON THE LAM!

I hope all our Orlando queens are accounted for down in Orlando, FL! Roxxxy Andrews, you coo? Ginger Minj, you good? Anyone got eyes on Tyra Sanchez?! Hide yo wife! Hide yo kids! Hide yo husbands! There is a damn king cobra on the loose in Orlando. The eight foot long, green and yellow snake escaped from it’s ‘possibly mesh and glass’ cage in it’s owner’s home sometime on Tuesday or Wednesday according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The Orlando Sentinel spoke to Carl Barden who owns the Reptile Discovery Center and has been extracting venom from king cobras for over 20, and he says the snakes are “shy elusive animals” and that “the chances of that snake actually biting someone are extremely remote.” He also said there was plenty of king cobra anti-venom in Central Florida. A local elementary school isn’t taking any chances and is keeping all kids inside today while the hunt for the missing snake continues. Although officials haven’t revealed who owns the home, property records show that Mike Kennedy, who’s know for Airplane Repo on the Discovery Channel, owns it with his wife Valerie. I know I’d be inside today because I just CAN’T with king cobras.

September 5, 1912John Cage:

“I can’t understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I’m frightened of the old ones.”

John Milton Cage was a most important American experimental music composer, writer, Performance & visual artist. His most famous & controversial musical composition is the 1952 piece 4’33”, whose 3 movements are performed without playing a single note. Pronounced “4 minutes 33 seconds”, it is a composition for any instrument, or combination of instruments. The score instructs the performer not to play the instrument during the entire duration of the piece. Cage intended 4’33’’ to consist of the sounds of the environment that the listeners hear while it is being performed. Get it?

Cage was a pioneer of what he called “chance music”, music where some elements are left to be decided simply by chance. He is also known for his unconventional use of musical instruments & his early use of electronic music. Cage is one of the most important composers of his era, especially for asking questions about the very definition of music.

Along with painters Robert Rauschenberg & Jasper Johns, partners in life, Cage & his own partner in life & in art, choreographer Merce Cunningham, became a part of a circle of fascinating young gay artists whose ideas & execution challenged the macho Abstract Expressionists like Jackson Pollack who dominated the 1950s NYC art scene. They developed an alternative creative & very gay spirit that became the trademark of Post-Modern Art.

cage 3

Cage on left with Cunningham & Robert Rauschenberg

Cage pushed the boundaries of the definition of music, experimenting with sound, environment & audience perception. His work influenced music, painting, dance, performance art & poetry in the last half of the 20th century.

Cage was born in LA, the son of an inventor. Young Cage held a yearning for innovation & originality, qualities that became the hallmarks of his entire career.

In 1930, after 2 years at Pomona College, Cage left for a less traditional education in Europe. He chose Paris, & spent 18 months painting, writing poetry & composing music, before returning to California to focus on music.

From 1932-1936, Cage studied composition with the famous modernist, Arnold Schoenberg. Schoenberg was a gay Austrian Jew who fled those nasty Nazis for the USA,. Schoenberg declared the young Cage: “…is not a composer, but an inventor of genius.”

In 1937, Cage took a job as a dance accompanist while taking classes at The Cornish School Of The Arts in Seattle, where he met student Merce Cunningham. During the Seattle years, Cage organized an all-percussion band, collected unusual instruments & explored the Pacific Northwest.

Cage & Cunningham’s musical & romantic partnership would last 54 years until Cage left this world in 1992. Together & apart, the couple changed the relationship of music to dance.  Cage served music director of Cunningham’s company &, for many years, its manager, main fundraiser, cook, company philosopher, morale-booster & liaison between the introverted choreographer & the dancers.

In 1938, Cage began to experiment with pieces for the prepared piano, a piano he created with objects placed on & between the strings to alter sound. He also used record players & phonographs, kitchen appliances, kiddie toys, & flower pots as instruments. He actually received a review in The NY Times that said:

“Mr. Cage’s music had an inescapable resemblance to the meaningless sounds made by children amusing themselves by banging on tin pans & other resonant kitchen utensils.”

In Water Music (1952), Cage had a pianist pour water from one pot into another, and perform with a whistle & a deck of cards. Critics & audiences of traditional music were not amused.

In the 1940’s, Cage continued to pursue unorthodox musical techniques. He was fascinated with Zen Buddhism which led him to the notion of chance music. Based on the I Ching, the Zen book of changes, Cage created compositions solely by chance.

Cage worked best when he would compose & collaborate with other artists. In his later years, he focused exclusively with electronic music, sometimes using radios, & holding “Happenings,” pieces that are mostly unwritten, except for timed intervals in which a note, a sound, or silence is scheduled.

Cage’s work & life had a huge impact on Pop Art, Modern Minimalism, Performance Art, Installation Art, Process Art, Design & Pop Music. The late 20th century artists that created & worked with those forms,  had all  come in contact with Cage at some point in the 1950s. He is an influence on pop figures: Yoko Ono, Laurie Anderson, Phillip Glass, Brian Eno, David Bowie & David Byrne. The Beatles’ song A Day In The Life was inspired by Lennon & McCartney’s time spent hanging out with Cage in the 1960s.

Cage was also a writer, philosopher, visual & performance artist. He was a self-taught expert on mushrooms. Early in his career, he made a living gathering mushrooms in the country & selling them to gourmet restaurants in NYC, including The Four Seasons. Cage said that mushrooms reminded him of the ephemeral nature of life.  He was co-founder of the NY Mycological Society, dedicated to the study, collection & appreciation of mushrooms & fungi. I can totally dig it.

Cage:

“That’s one of the beautiful things about hunting mushrooms, they grow up & they’re fresh at just a particular moment, & our lives are actually characterized by moments.”

Cage insisted that music is everywhere in the ordinary moments of our lives. We just have to learn to hear it. Cage’s lasting influence is in his ideas about the artistic freedom that comes with breaking the rules. I couldn’t agree more.

Cage left this world in August 1992, taken by a stroke at 79 years old in the NYC home he shared with Cunningham. Cunningham joined his partner in summer 2009. Theirs is one of the great love stories.

Cage’s work remains thought provoking, continues to spur arguments, & still spreads mischief. People who knew him have told me he was warm & modest.

“I like everything.”

You’ve seem the memes of clerk Kim Davis, mainly about her dowdy appearance and the fact that she OBVIOUSLY doesn’t know any gay people. Well, the owner of Jim Brofft Salon Central in Cincinnati, has issued an offer to color, cut and style—for free—the hair of Ms. Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who was jailed on Thursday for contempt of court after she refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Brofft says;

“She could really use a boost in color and a flattering cut. God gave her Beelzebub-brown hair. I can give it shape. Pizazz. Highlights!”

Brofft said that an appointment for his services, gratis, would give Davis exposure to a gay person in a relaxed, non-contentious environment…

“Maybe after a hour with me in her jail cell she will see that homosexuals are just like everyone else, except we tend to be better at fixing problem hair.”

Regarding Davis’s current hair style, Brofft repeated Davis’ own quote about gay marriage:

“It’s not of God.”

Why give a freebie to a woman who refused her governmental duty to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples? Brofft explained that compassion and communication are the best ways to bridge the gap.

“I believe in the transformative power of great style. Kim will look in the mirror after a hair makeover and see not only a more beautiful woman, but perhaps one who can open her heart and accept that gay people deserve to love and marry…just as she loved and married each of her four husbands.”

Bless you, Jim –are doing God’s work!
