The International Documentary Association has announced the honorees for its 2014 special awards. The Pioneer Award will go to Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, founders of World of Wonder Productions, a company perhaps best known for the TV show “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and the movie “Party Monster,” but also prolific in the documentary world (“The Eyes of Tammy Faye“). The 2014 Career Achievement Award will be presented to Robert Redford, actor, activist and founder of the renowned Sundance Institute. Rithy Panh will receive IDA’s Preservation and Scholarship award, which recognizes individuals who’ve contributed archival work and/or access of film to the public. Panh is known for his documentary, “The Missing Picture,” a 2013 Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Language Film.
“This year we have chosen to honor four outstanding members of our global documentary community,” said IDA Executive Director Michael Lumpkin. “Whether changing minds, changing the world or making some of the best entertainment in our industry, Robert Redford, Randy Barbato, Fenton Bailey and Rithy Panh represent the depth, breadth and power of nonfiction storytelling in today’s world.” - Via Indiewire
