For those of you who thought Madonna had staged her computer hacking as publicity, here’s some news. She just released a statement on Facebook in the wake of the arrest made in her hacking case:
“I am profoundly grateful to the FBI, the Israeli Police investigators and anyone else who helped lead to the arrest of this hacker. I deeply appreciate my fans who have provided us with pertinent information and continue to do so regarding leaks of my music. Like any citizen, I have the right to privacy. This invasion into my life — creatively, professionally, and personally — remains a deeply devastating and hurtful experience, as it must be for all artists who are victims of this type of crime.”
The hacker suspect, a 39 year-old who has yet to be officially identified, was arrested in Israel on Wednesday after an investigation of over a month that involved a private investigation firm along with Israel’s Lahav 433, a crime-fighting organization much like the FBI. The man is accused of hacking into Madge’s computer in December and leaking several demo tracks from her album Rebel Heart. According to a statement by Lahav 433:
The suspect “broke into the personal computers of several international artists over the past few months and stole promotional final-cut singles which have yet to be released and traded them online for a fee. In light of the findings of the investigation, the unit collaborated closely with the FBI, with suspicion of even more break-ins to computers owned by unknown international artists, stealing and selling their works.”
Guess he didn’t pay much attention to the track titles on the album he ripped off. One is CLEARLY called “Bitch, I’m Madonna.” I would add something that anyone who’s watched her four decade career already knows; #dontfuckwithmadonna. (Photo, Mert Marcus; via THR)
