Call it “The Amal Effect” – stars suddenly thinking they’re “above” silly fashion questions. Last night at the Grammy Awards, Nicole Kidman was COMPLETELY PUT OUT when Ryan Seacrest DARED to ask her who designed her dress. Kidman was frostily silent, then after making Seacrest squirm for what seemed like minutes, rolled her eyes and said “I don’t know what to say.”
Ryan prompted her to tell her who designed the dress, and after another awkward silence he quickly moved on to Keith, asking who designed his T-shirt. Keith seemed just as bored by the question and the two stars wafted away on a cloud of insolence and hubris.
Really, Miss Thing?
NICOLE KIDMAN is above talking about fashion? The same Nicole Kidman, who Lainey Gossip points out, once “wanted that Dior by Galliano chartreuse dress so badly for the Oscars in 1997, she basically chased a woman up a mountain for it. The story is told in Bronwyn Cosgrave’s book Made For Each Other about the history of Oscar fashion. And when she finally put it on, she had the discipline and the tenacity to sit, unmoving, in a limo for 90 minutes so as not to wrinkle it so she could achieve perfection when she was finally photographed. The result? One of the most memorable Oscar dresses of all time. That dress practically made her.”
For her to behave this way now is just ridiculous. Who does she think she is? The red carpet is a fashion show, plain and simple. Why would any star feign surprise when asked about their dress? Anybody that watches the red carpet isn’t waiting for a celebrity to make a statement on war and peace, and neither are the producers or the makers of the garments. You’re there to promote your latest project. You’re on the clock, act like it or go home.
And think about it: If they STOPPED asking you what you are wearing, you will no longer be wearing beautiful things for free. You think designers let you borrow and likely ruin their gowns for nothing? Grow up and play the game.
