Designer Luca Nichetto unveiled his new standalone Cubitat at Toronto’s Interior Design Show last month. The 10 x 10 x 10 cube is complete home with all you’ll need but a couch, table and chairs, once it’s hooked up to plumbing and electric. It’s still in prototype phase, but once on the market it’ll enable city-dwellers to turn a compact home with no need for renovations or additions. The developers say buyers can customize the cubes online, before having them shipped to their destination. One side features a kitchen with sink, oven, stove top, dishwasher, refrigerator and storage space. Around the corner is an entertaining area, with a flat screen TV, book shelves, storage and a pull-out double bed, which slides out from underneath the TV. Next is a hidden laundry, with a door to the bathroom inside the Cubitat. One major hurdle to overcome is getting the Cubitat inside your space. If you have a nice 30 x 30′ warehouse space with a garage door opening, you can plunk your Cubitat right in the middle and start decorating.
