We have had record snow falls across the country and it cost a fortune to plow, ice and even melt tons of the unwanted white stuff. But the Japanese have been making good use of their snow for the last 8 decades. Visitors to their Sapporo Snow Festival, draws millions of visitors each year. People love the giant, painstakingly constructed snow sculptures. The main attraction this year is undoubtedly the giant sculpture of Darth Vader with stormtroopers which stand 50 feet tall. It’s officially endorsed by Lucasfilm and overseen by Disney and the finished product required a jaw-dropping seven million pounds of snow —the largest amount ever at the festival– and took 2,000 people over a month to build. The week-long festival is now in its 66th year with over 2 million tourists visiting per annum, but Darth Vader might just bring that number up for 2015.
