Sunday night’s Academy Awards ceremony paid tribute to many who passed away in 2014. Oscar winner Meryl Streep introduced the “In Memoriam” segment, which included Robin Williams, Lauren Bacall, and Mike Nichols. But there was an outcry afterward among fans of late Joan Rivers, who was omitted from the segment. Rivers appeared in the films Spaceballs, Rabbit Test, and the recent documentary on Joan, A Piece of Work. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the group that oversees the Oscars, issued the following statement to explain Rivers’ absense from the tribute:
“Joan Rivers is among the many worthy artists and filmmakers we were unfortunately unable to feature in the In Memoriam segment of this year’s Oscar show. She is, however, included in our In Memoriam gallery on Oscar.com.”
Uh, yeah –right… of all people to leave out. You guys are getting haunted, you can count on it. The Lady Bunny posted this meme that sums up what we’re SURE was Joan’s reaction.
