#SpockingFives: Canadian Star Trek Fans Are “Spocking” Their $5 Bills

Since Leonard Nimoy’s death last week, Canadians have been “Spocking” the hell out of the five dollar note that features their seventh prime minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier. Their old PM now features pointy ears, a Vulcan haircut and thick eyebrows along with Spock’s mantra “Live long and prosper.” It’s not illegal to do this but according to the Bank of Canada:

“…there are important reasons why it should not be done. Writing on a bank note may interfere with the security features and reduces its lifespan. Markings on a note may also prevent it from being accepted in a transaction. Furthermore, the Bank of Canada feels that writing and markings on bank notes are inappropriate as they are a symbol of our country and a source of national pride.”

This is never NOT going to be a thing now and probably makes a $5 bill worth more than five dollars, depending on who has done the “spocking”, right? Looks like a big improvement, so SPOCK AWAY!
