You must think by now I’m just a dog with a bone that won’t let go…. this is my 5th post about D&G and the aftermath of their… blah, blah, blah. At this point, if you don’t know about this story, welcome to earth, aliens. This is the story that JUST KEEPS ON GIVING. Now Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have launched their own campaigns in response to Elton John’s boycott of their brand. #BoycottDolceGabbana. Playing on the slogan made popular in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo attacks, where 11 people were killed, they have declared “Je Suis D&G” also using the hashtag #boycotteltonjohn. Many celebs, including Victoria Beckham and Ricky Martin, as well as LGBT activists have supported the boycott against the D & G, but it seems these jerks have their fans. One said on Twitter:
“It’s a double standard if you are supporting Je Suis Charlie and not Dolce & Gabbana”
And another:
“Fight for the traditional family! End the gay lobby! #JeSuisDG.”
The duo’s campaigns aren’t exactly taking off though. On Twitter, #BoycottEltonJohn has only been used 1,500 times. The original, #BoycottDolceandGabbana, has been used more than 30,000 times. And the story goes… I’m most curious how much this will effect sales. People vote with their wallets, so this will take a little time to get some of the stats in. I have a feeling this story isn’t over yet… all joking aside, I think D & G are getting the message their “opinions” are outmoded and it is serving a larger good to open to open people’s eyes to diversity, in general.
