Brooklyn drag collective Chez Deep just put out this clip, featuring model and CD member Hari Neff and singer/songwriter Alexis Penney. Throughout the piece, Neff repeats, “There is no such thing as a man”. The proclamation has an eeriness to it, since it’s layered over BLISCORD’s dark electro beats, but also forces you to re-examine your own accepted gender identity. “The video came out of conversations we had about the structures of power in a patriarchal society and what it would mean to subvert or reverse those,” Penney explains. “Sort of a ‘What if Chez Deep were the ministers of a trans feminine matriarchy?’ The kind of subtle joke being that within the dynamics of the collective, it can sometimes seem that we are already that, even if just in the isolated universe of our performances, projects, and home.” (via The Fader)
