Welsh-born and current NYC transplant Bright Light Bright Light (aka the lovely, handsome, talented Rod Thomas) is back on the road this spring. A master of soaring, dance-tastic literate pop that hearkens back to classic Erasure meets Cathy Dennis (sho nuff!) meets current vibes of Ellie Goulding or a more twinkly R.A.C. or… Awww, just peek at his videos below for a slice. “I Believe” gives you foxy wet bodies in a pool. And BLBL’s classic “Waiting for the Feeling” packs sporty spice.
I’ve also gotten word that Rod has recently collaborated on a new single and video with Scissor Sisters’s siren Ana Matronic, so look for that soon. And his other musical enterprise, Slow Knights, has been gaining traction. It’s a thumpy hot soulful project which unites Rod with other former Scissor Sister Del Marquis, NYC’s brilliant Xavier, Bridget Barkan, Derek Gruen and Mykal Kilgore. Their new album, Living in a Dark World, is coming in April. Busy, busy!!!
Tonight, if you’re speedy, BLBL has a show at Rough Trade Records in Williamsburg, Brooklyn! Get tix and go! Or come see him in San Francisco on April 10, or join me at his L.A. show on April 11 at the Bootleg, or head to Phoenix Pride on April 12. Then, just to be sassy there’s a gig in Sarasota on May 16. You have options!!!
CAUTION: Bright Light Bright Light onstage may get airborne. Maybe bring a helmet?
Trust, you’ll be bumping and jumping along to Rod’s swoon-worthy lyrics and thumpy beats. He’s just spent the last year opening for Sir Elton John all over the planet (For reals! Elton hand-picked him as his show-starter.) and he also just opened a bunch of dates for Tinashe in the UK.
And come on… Doesn’t a dreamy spring night spent with this guy sounds blissful!??
More Bright Light Bright Light on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Cheers!
