A video urging Irish citizens to vote “yes” for same-sex marriage shows everyday folks standing up for family and equality with the Emerald Isle’s most famous daughters and sons — none of which you will know in the U.S., I’m pretty sure. Voting-age children are seen asking parents if they’re ready. One father, a farmer, tells his daughter he “wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
When Irish voters go to the polls on May 22, it’ll mark the first time anywhere in the world that a national referendum has considered the issue of marriage equality. Marriage equality supporters are cautiously optimistic that the referendum will pass, with a recent poll showing 70 percent of voters support allowing same-sex couples marry. Fingers crossed. In the meantime, get out your handkerchiefs… watch.
