Caitlyn Jenner and daughter Kim Kardashian said that watching Transparent as a family helped them with Jenner’s transition. Speaking yesterday at Tuesday’s Brass Ring Awards, show creator Jill Soloway said that Jenner has been invited to show’s set in L.A.
“I don’t know if she’d want to act, but we definitely want to incorporate the fact that she came out into this season. Just to have that base conversation somewhere in a scene, for sure.”
I feel like the change in the transgender community has happened because of the lived lives of trans people. There is a sea change happening right now, a revolution and we’re definitely in there a part of it. Sometimes I just trip on the fact that she’s the patriarch of the most famous family on the planet. There’s an international resonance with people recognizing that trans people are people too.”
The series Transparent is based on Soloway’s own father, who came out as transgender just four years ago. She told Variety about watching the “About Bruce” episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, where Jenner opened up to his family;
“The whole family transitions because everybody’s changing. If one person becomes more authentic, everyone comes to be more authentic. If you’re not being yourself, you can’t have an honest communication with someone who is being themselves. So everyone really grows from it. It calls everyone into their higher self.”
Soloway said Jenner’s Vanity Fair cover was beautiful but also called attention to Laverne Cox’s blog post about trans women.
“There’s the glamorous part of being trans, then there’s the reality, which is the trans movement is just starting. It’s still unsafe for trans people to use bathrooms. It’s just beginning and there are miles to go on this life’s journey so hopefully (Jenner will) get to be a part of the community and I know she will be because she will be an activist for change.”
