Yes, another reason to feel old. If you are 25 yourself, this might not be news. For those who never saw it, Ghost is a romantic story of a man whose love for his partner, after being killed during a botched mugging, allows him to remain on earth as a ghost…. and there’s a twisty sub-plot too. It stars Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, Tony Goldwyn and Whoopi Goldberg. It was written by Bruce Joel Rubin and directed by Jerry Zucker and nominated for multiple Oscars, including Best Picture. It won for for Best Original Screenplay, as well as Best Supporting Actress, for Whoopi (putting her in the EGOT club; an EMMY, GRAMMY, OSCAR & a TONY, mostly inhabited by composers or if your last name is Streisand.) Anyway, it may seem kinda cheesy in retrospect, but if this same film were made in the 30s or 40s with Mary Astor and Cary Grant (Whoopi would have been played by Butterfly McQueen, I guess) it would be considered a classic today. It was a box office success and the soundtrack was a hit and classic catchphrase, uttered by Whoopi, is with us today in gifs and memes galore;
“You in danger, girl.”
But what we think of most, is that pottery scene between Moore & Swayze – which is still sexy as hell– and THAT song. And don’t tell me you didn’t cry at the end. Now the late Mr. Swayze is a real ghost. RIP – now you ARE immortal. Watch.
