Yesterday, came the news of the passing of jazz great Ornette Coleman, veteran actor Christopher Lee, the great Ruby Dee and if that wasn’t enough loss, Rue McClanahan. You may recall that McClanahan died in 2010 but for some reason, social media thought otherwise. Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time this has happened. Last year, social media shared the “news” of McClanahan’s passing with the same sad gusto. But not everyone bought it, instead replying with 140-characters worth of snark. But hey, on the internet, why let something stupid like the facts get in the way of a good #RIP. I echo what @MatthewHurst posted, let’s just hope Betty White was oblivious to all of this.
