At the height of her Maude fame in 1975, until her death in 2009, Bea Arthur made this estate in Brentwood’s Sullivan Canyon her home. In 1998, the Golden Girls star said;
“This is country out here…I can walk around without anything on and nobody cares, and it’s just lovely.”
Built in 1924, it was originally designed by Cliff May, the father of the California Ranch house, but was majorly renovated by Arthur’s son, Matt Saks. It has 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, a pool, spa, tennis courts, hiking trails, and waterfalls on nearly four acres. It was rented for $60,000 a month, but now it’s on the market for just under $16 million.
