If you thought you couldn’t love Jon Stewart any more, just wait. As he winds down his 16-year run on The Daily Show, everyone’s wondering what he’ll do next? Stewart and his wife, Tracey McShane, just announced that they bought the farm – literally. The advocacy group Farm Sanctuary said in a release;
“The couple recently bought a farm in New Jersey with the intention of providing a home for farm animals rescued from cruelty, and in November, Tracey purchased an Adopt a Farm Animal sponsorship for all of their Thanksgiving guests. Even their children are living the Farm Sanctuary life, with Tracey saying that “promises of animal shelter visits in exchange for completed homework are the norm in the Stewart household.”
A longtime animal-rights advocate, earlier this month, Stewart interviewed Gene Baur, president and co-founder of Farm Sanctuary, in which Baur discussed his latest book, Living the Farm Sanctuary Life. His wife Tracey is also a big supporter of animal’s rights, with a book on the subject, Do Unto Animals, slated for a fall release. She also runs a magazine, Moomah, that dedicated its most recent issue to living a vegan lifestyle. Tracey says;
“The joy of interacting with animals as friends instead of using them for human consumption is life-changing. A trip to Farm Sanctuary should be on everyone’s to-do list.”
The Stewarts already care for 15 creatures, plus their two children: two fish, two parrots, two guinea pigs, two regular pigs, two horses, four dogs, and a parrot.
“All rescues. Except for the children.”
And in their honor, Farm Sanctuary just named two rescued sheep Jon and Tracey. If we’ve got to lose this guy on a nightly basis, at least it’s with good reason. What a guy! –who apparently married quite a gal too. (via Philly)
