Walter Palmer has been in hiding since he killed Cecil the lion
A White House petition demanding that dentist Walter Palmer, who killed Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe, be extradited to Africa, should now get a response from the Obama administration. It needed 100,000 signatures by August 27 and it has more than 160,000 signatures as of this writing. It says;
“We urge the Secretary of State John Kerry and the Attorney General Loretta Lynch to fully cooperate with the Zimbabwe authorities and to extradite Walter Palmer promptly at the Zimbabwe government’s request.”
Since news of the killing sparked international outrage the most hated man in America is been nowhere to be found. Palmer is in BIG trouble after the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force said Cecil was lured out of an animal sanctuary and shot with a crossbow. According to the White House petition;
“He is alleged to have lured Cecil from the safety of the national park to kill him. Two of Palmer’s local accomplices are already in custody. Zimbabwe authorities now actively seeking Palmer in connection with this incident.”
You all know the whole story by now, I won’t go into anymore details. I’ll admit, I’m such an animal lover that when it first surfaced and I saw the photos and heard the details, I avoided it as much as possible. Honestly, the thought of the the incident in my face all day, depressed me and made me angry and ill to the degree that I “hid” the scores of stories posted on Facebook and asked friends to
“Chill with the lion posts, pls.”
I also hate the false equivocally that always seems to emerge when the #BlackLivesMatter or anti-Planned Parenthood voices start to clamor and compare things that have NO reason to be pitted against each other. People CAN hold several thoughts at once without negating others. In today’s “Trending Topic” culture everyone jumps on the same bandwagon and beats the same drum until we are all deaf, dumb and blind to what has actually happened.
I did post stories here about Jane Birkin asking Hermés to remove her name from their bag after discovering the cruel practices associated with making them. This is essentially the same story except that the alligators were nameless. In my opinion, all hunters are animal murderers and as I mentioned in the Birkin story,
“If all men are created equal, it might stand that all animals are created that way too –not just the ones we deem to be regal, endangered or cute.”
Let’s hope that Cecil has just ushered us into a new-age of awareness about animal cruelty and the hypocrisy of our modern lives.
