Three men repeatedly yelled “f*ggots” at a Starbucks in West Hollywood the other day, so another customer and a manager asked them to leave. Will & Grace star, Leslie Jordan – all four feet and eleven of him – couldn’t stand by and watch either. The openly gay actor, who is a regular at that Starbucks, yelled;
“Get out of my house!”
The fight continued outside and another customer went to back Jordan up. Photographer Joseph Daniels told WEHOville.com;
“He was screaming and pointing ‘you will die fucking faggots’. It was very scary and unexpected. The guy lunged at Leslie to hit him. Then Leslie threw his drink at the guy. Then (another) guy threw his drink to hit me.”
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and spoke with those involved but no charges were filed. Deputies urged the gay men not to file charges against the others, saying that if they did the men screaming “faggots” could accuse Jordan of assault for throwing his drink at one of them and the deputies would have to arrest Jordan. Daniels said the three men then walked away, headed east on Santa Monica and making obscene gestures to the gay men and continuing to call them “faggots.”
Jordan posted a statement on Facebook:
“I was hoping to remain silent on the incident at Starbucks but somehow the story found legs and has made its way into the press. I feel I owe my friends an explanation:
Truth be told it was “sweet” iced tea, not coffee. I am a “sweet” mannered Southern boy who was taught not to start a fight. Nobody ever told me I could not end one. I refused to sit and watch these hate crimes continue. I guess our work for equality is not done yet!
I’m being hailed a hero which is all well and good but I lost my temper. My heroes in life always kept their cool.”
Leslie, you ARE a hero, hon. But at least this didn’t happen at a bar and you didn’t waste any good vodka on that trash. (via Attitude)
