Morrissey has just released his debut novel, The List of the Lost, and the reviews have been – how shall we say? – less than favorable. “An unpolished turd of a book” and a “bizarre, misogynistic ramble,” are just two of the things I can print here. The 118-page novel, apparently littered with typos and grammatical errors, is set Boston in the 1970s and tells the story of a relay team accidentally murders a demon named Fetch who then curses them.
It’s the following sex scene, though, that seems to be getting the most attention:
Eliza and Ezra rolled together into the one giggling snowball of full-figured copulation, screaming and shouting as they playfully bit and pulled at each other in a dangerous and clamorous rollercoaster coil of sexually violent rotation with Eliza’s breasts barrel-rolled across Ezra’s howling mouth and the pained frenzy of his bulbous salutation extenuating his excitement as it smacked its way into every muscle of Eliza’s body except for the otherwise central zone.
“Bulbous salutation”? “Giggling snowball of full-figured copulation,” Eliza’s “otherwise central zone”? WT actual F?
Jessica Winter over at Slate wonders: “Has Morrissey ever even had sex?”
Oh, and here’s a second sex scene that’s almost as turgid:
Love it!
