At the risk of pissing off countless fans, Bette Midler teased Twitter about a production delay on a sequel to the ’93 cult-classic, Hocus Pocus, co-starring Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker.
“Breaking news!! SEQUEL DELAYED!! @Disney having trouble finding a virgin! #HocusPocus”
The joke fell flat with a legion of rabid fans, who have spent two decades patiently waiting to see more Sanderson Sisters. During a Reddit AMA last year Midler also teased,
“You have to go to send in your cards to Walt Disney company. The ball’s in their court.”
The site Star Wipe for one is REALLY pissed about these jokes. According to their post…
For almost 15 years we’ve been sending an automated, twice-daily correspondence to the Walt Disney Company asking for—no, demanding—a continuation of the Hocus Pocus franchise. After receiving multiple cease and desist orders, we had to start changing the return address, taking on the pseudonym “Thackery Binx.” This is, of course, the name of our favorite character from Hocus Pocus, and it’s yet to be flagged by Disney—likely because the company does not care as much about Hocus Pocus as we do.
…we’re not fucking around here.
Wow, if they aren’t teasing, they REALLY want a sequel. Kathy Najimy joined in on Twitter bringing the film’s composer, Marc Shaiman, into the nontroversy.
