Star Wars super fan Daniel Fleetwood, 32, was given two months to live back in July, after being diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma, a rare connective tissue cancer. He’s still here, however, and fighting to make it at least to the Dec. 18 release of The Force Awakens.
“Judging by how progressive the disease has gotten in the past two months, I really don’t think that I’ll be able to make it,” he told KPRC. “Please do what you can. Help me.”
The Twitter hashtag #ForceForDaniel has been started to encourage JJ Abrams and Disney to set up a special screening for Fleetwood ahead of the worldwide premiere.
Star Wars stars Mark Hamill, Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Daisy Ridley, Warwick Davis, and John Boyega have all been retweeting messages in support of the campaign.
According to the TechInsider, this wouldn’t be the first time a fan’s dying wish to see a movie early has been granted.
In January 2013, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams let a terminally ill man see “Star Trek Into Darkness” in advance of the film’s spring release. And in 2009, Pixar sent a DVD copy of “Up” to a 10-year-old girl who was able to watch the film just hours before she died.
Hopefully The Powers That Be aren’t heartless dicks and make this happen ASAP. We’ll keep you updated.
