Hallo Ihr Lieben,
This year’s Lifeball (a charity event in the style of a Viennese Ball) was ultra special – as it was infused with the energy of Conchita Wurst’s Eurovision win – the woman of the moment, Austrian Superstar, UNSERE KÖNIGIN.
Lifeball is the a huge event at the regal, gothic Vienna Town Hall to raise money for those affected worldwide by HIV/AIDS. Lifeball is Europe’s largest AIDS charity event. If this cause is close to your heart, please donate.
The Ball is in its 9th year and is attended by many celebrities, who support the cause. This year Courtney Love, Marcia Cross and Bill Clinton were there. Lindsay Lohan was too lazy to fly and was tweeting pictures of herself jogging in London the same day!
For me it was all about Conchita. We met briefly in the press area. “Conchita, Ich liebe dich und dein musik. Ich repräsentiere WOW report in LA. Sie lieben dich in USA auch”(Conchita, I love you and your music. I represent WOW Report in LA. They love you in the US as well). Conchita placed her hand diva-like on her chest and smiled lovingly ” Danke”.
Conchita performed on the main stage to close the ball with ” Rise like a Phoenix” and then treated us to a private concert inside the ” Heaven Vienna” area. I cannot stress how popular Conchita is here. John Paul Gaultier joined her on the stage.
There was a catawalk show featuring the likes of Gaultier, Westwood and Viktor & Rolf where Courtney Love and Carmen Carrera walked. Courtney was doing her more Oscar vs. druggie look in an evening gown. However, the real fashion stars of the night were the well dressed people who had aquired a Style Ticket, some of whom were competing for Best Dressed of the Year. I saw both Amanda Lepore and Daniel Lismore and believe me, they just blended into the crowd for once.
On every floor of the huge Rathaus ( Town Hall) there was another party. The highlight was the burlesque and Boylesque troops featuring international and local artists. I know I’m missing the trend but BOYLESQUE? HOW COOL IS THIS!
I also just wanted to tell you all drag superstars, wanna-be drag superstars that the scene has moved. Yeah, I know, the scene is always moving but sometimes you just get this sense that somewhere is about to go on the map – Vienna is that place. The majestic palaces, the pride flags waving from the trams, the option to eat cheap Sushi on every corner – this is the new, better dressed Berlin.
Liebe Grüße,
Über Fabulous
