Tilda Swinton drives a lovely new Mercedes-Benz S 500 Coupe along the Scottish shoreline in this enigmatic commercial, stopping occasionally to bury… things?… and to, um, throw some magic beans (maybe), before meeting up with her son (possibly) on a foggy beach. To be honest, I have no idea what the hell I just watched but I liked her coat and her blue gloves, so that counts for something.
The pedigree of everyone involved is pretty astounding: The campaign was realized by art photographer and director Roe Ethridge, with Tilda’s frequent collaborator, Haider Ackerman, responsible for the styling direction. The gorgeous camera work was done by Andre Chemetoff, known for his work on videos such as Lana Del Rey’s “Born to Die” and M.I.A.’s “Bad Girls”. So the film may be oblique, but it’s FABULOUSLY oblique.
Says Tilda of the film: “Scotland is a timeless and a mysterious place. It represents my origin and was the perfect setting for the subtly intertwined story we are telling in this film. Working with Roe, with my old friend Haider and with Andre with his unerring eye was incredibly harmonious and inspiring. And driving through the wilderness in this fascinating coupé was a dreamy experienc.,”
