Seattle-based rapper Grieves has an intriguing sound that’s been described as “thoughtful,” “revealing,” and “a musically-inclined brand of independent hip-hop” Now, you know me, I don’t usually give these blue-eyed rappers the time of day, but something about this song has gotten into my head. I like it. I like the instrumental hook and the subject matter (he sings about being grumpy and wanting to be left alone).
He tells 2DopeBoyz about the song’s lyrics: “‘Recluse’ is a song that stems from these crazy-ass hangovers I get. The older I get, the worse they become. They shouldn’t have made whiskey taste so good.”
I hear ya, babe. I’ve been there. We all have. Listen to it below. Give it a couple of minutes – at least until the chorus – I promise, it grows on you. (And that’s a killer bridge at 2:20 – WOW).
“The bad thoughts and the whiskey are better company than bullshit. So just leave it and go.”
