We are at the beginning of the robot revolution, folks, with robots becoming faster and cheaper every year. The implications, according to this video, are terrifying. If you think you’re job is safe, you’re fooling yourself. Labor jobs, white collar jobs, even creative arts jobs are about to become obsolete. Where will that leave us? At the mercy of our robot overlords, I suspect. The video is long but watch it. Just watch it. It might be the most important thing you see all year.
“This video isn’t about how automation is bad, rather that automation is inevitable. We need to start thinking now about what to do when large sections of the population are unemployable, through no fault of their own, what to do in a future where, for most jobs, Humans Need Not apply.”
SOME YOUTUBE COMMENTS TO CHEW ON:
“We need to abolish capitalism as soon as possible. In a world where most people won’t need to work, we need to have an economic system where people are entitled to enough of the national product to survive on. Otherwise, we’ll have massive poverty and inequality.”
“So, if robots will work for us, feed us, defend us, think for us, research for us, teach for us, and create arts for us, what the hell are we for? In this far flung future, they only thing I can see humans doing is existing, and eventually we will realize were are pointless and commit mass suicide/extinction/whatever. Then the robots will have no purpose and just shut themselves off. ”
“Simple solution: socialism. Eventually, the robots will do all the work and humans can do whatever they want. ”
“what if the robot decides your fun isn’t productive or efficient and you don’t get what you need to have fun?”
“It was a real lightbulb moment for me when I realized that if my job were just a set of instructions then my employer could have just written a program. They must have hired me to do more than that. They hired me because I can improvise.”
“Robots will never HAVE to improvise”
“Damn Future, you scary.”
“It’s quite scary. What will the majority of populations do to earn money? Income disparity will surely reach record highs.”
“but how will we adapt? i think if the majority of the population becomes unemployed because of machines either everyone will just die off until theres only the few elite left or hopefully everyone gets super welfare to do whatever with or something.”
