One of the legendary drag artistes of our time, Lypsinka NEVER disappoints. This particular performance has been getting some traction again this week because of the “But Alive” number sung by Lauren Bacall in Applause. But it’s so much more than that. Lyppie tosses in a hundred other snippets, in that way that she has, from Mommie Dearest to Butterfield 8 to X, Y, and Zee, plus some really nutty tracks of Bette Davis singing. The phone bit alone is worth the price of admission. Absolute genius. And it BRINGS THE HOUSE DOWN. You kids think you know lipsyncing, but TRUST. YOU KNOW NOTHING! NOTHING, MISS THING! Watch and learn from the master.
And watch the original Lauren Bacall number from Applause (the 1970 Broadway musical based on All About Eve) here, as Margo Channing visits a Greenwhich Village gay bar. (Its BEYOND camp).
