Back in 2012, Taylor Swift was in talks to portray folk legend Joni Mitchell in a big-screen adaptation of Girls Like Us, a book that focuses on the impact of Joni, Carol King and Carly Simon. But the role was never confirmed. Two years later, we now know why the film wasn’t greenlit: Mitchell prevented the biopic from being made. Joni recently told The Sunday Times;
“I squelched that. I said to the producer, ‘All you’ve got is a girl with high cheekbones.’ It’s just a lot of gossip, you don’t have the great scenes. There’s a lot of nonsense about me in books. . .assumptions, assumptions, assumptions.”
Well, she DOES have a reputation for being cranky, you know, and maybe she has a point –Taylor is all kinds of wrong to play her. But in the female rock biopic world there’s some good news. Looks like Amy Adams will play Janis Joplin in the long-awaited biopic of the rock legend. Not wishing ANYONE ill, but it goes without saying that it’s MUCH easier to deal with dead icons (and their estates) as opposed to living ones when getting “approval”. (via Rolling Stone)
