Are you doing RuPaul’s Drag Race in the UK?
Well, it was all a bit random when it hit the press to be honest. I think everyone would like it to happen though. Ru and Michelle have been talking about it on their podcast but it’s just not as simple as, ‘Oh, we have this great show in the US, let’s just bring it to the UK.’ If it does happen I would love to be involved in some way.
Drag culture in the UK is different to the US. Over there they have a real pageant culture, but here it’s influenced by fashion, seaside, Danny LaRue and Shakespearean pantomime. We have all these reference points and it would be so interesting to explore and present that.

The US must be running out of queens anyway, no?
No, there are always going to be baby queens coming up – and Drag Race especially has made sure of that, which is brilliant.

What about the your name? How did that happen?
My drag friends, Brandy and Petra said, ‘You have to choose a drag name with the first letter of your boy name.’ So I said, ‘Ok, J, so it’ll be Jodie.’ Then about a month or two in, someone just gave me the ‘Harsh.’ At the time I thought it was fucking hilarious, now I don’t think I have the most creative name and I’m not particularly proud of it. It was kind of just given to me and I was stuck with it. If I could start again now, I don’t think I would pick Jodie Harsh. But it’s not really the name that counts, is it?
Tell me about your show on World of Wonder…
They got in touch and together we came up with Drag Queen Problems. It was like, ‘Let’s do a dragony aunt, totally tongue in cheek,’ you barely get any advice, it’s just silly and fun. Then we’ve done one-off episodes of Gay Boy Problems and Makeup Problems. At the end of the year, we have another batch of Drag Queen Problems coming. This time I’m running around Hollywood Boulevard, with a microphone in my hand, going up to like six foot, straight guys, going, ‘Hi, do you have any drag queen problems?’ They’re like, ‘What the fuck?’
